2002 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2002 Buick LeSabre?
A: The first step to replace an Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable begins by applying the park brake and wheel chocking. A complete removal of the retainer from the transaxle range selector cable mechanism allows you to disconnect the transaxle range selector cable terminal from the transaxle manual shift lever pin. The left closeout/insulator panel should be removed after pushing the locking tabs inward to let go of the transaxle range selector cable from its bracket. Start by taking off the retaining clip from the range selector cable then separate the cable from the column control lever and the steering column bracket. Pull the range selector cable into the cowl opening through the existing hole. Whenever installing the range selector cable ensure it passes correctly through the engine compartment before putting it through the cowl to connect it with the steering column bracket using a retaining clip. The range selector cable must be connected to the column control lever while you reinstall the left IP closeout panel and position the transaxle range selector cable into its bracket. The transaxle manual shift lever pin needs its terminal connected to the transaxle range selector cable after inserting the retainer into the transaxle range selector cable mechanism and performing cable adjustment.
