2002 Buick Regal Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair the Shock Absorber on 2002 Buick Regal?
A: The following tools are required in servicing and repairing the suspension strut: Strut spring compressor (J 34013-B), Damper rod clamp (J 34013-20), Alignment rod (J 34013-197), Strut compressor adapter (J 34013-125), Strut compressor lower Adaptor (J 34013-971), and Strut rod nut socket (J 42991). Start by removing the strut from its place and placing it in the Strut Spring Compressor (J 34013-Binto wide end of the adapter) using wing nuts putting wide the end of the dropouts the right side of the vehicle. Assemble the Strut Compressor Lower Adapter (J 34013-971) and Strut Compressor Adapter (J 34013-125) for correct operation. Leave one of these adapters open and put the strut in, the close them and then go ahead and thread locking pins through the hole of strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) and hole of the strut mounting. With a delicate turn of the screw at the Strut Spring Compressor (J 34013-B), unwind the spring to an amount of approximately 13 mm (0,50inches) or 3 4 full turns in a counterclockwise direction. Remove the strut nut using the Strut Rod Nut Socket (J 42991) while holding the shaft with a T-45 bit and discard the strut nut and relieve the spring compression. For assembly secure the strut unto the Strut Spring Compressor (J 34013-B) again proper alignment and extend the strut shaft fully. Attach the Damper Rod Clamp (J 34013-20) to stop the shaft from retracting, install the spring with properly positioned seats and compress the spring until the strut shaft is shown with a visible threaded part. Arrange the Alignment Rod (J 34013-197) straight with the strut, push it down via the highest element of the Strut Spring Compressor (J 34013-B) as well as the brand-new strut nut down the strut rod. While holding the shaft, use a T-45 TORX bit to tighten the strut rod to the upper mount to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). Last, remove all tools from the Strut Spring Compressor (J 34013-B), strip off the strut, put it back into the motor vehicle, and align the rear wheels.
