2002 Buick Rendezvous Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in an A/C system on 2002 Buick Rendezvous?
A: As a first step to replace the thermal expansion valve (TXV) technicians must recover all refrigerant from the a/c system. The heater hoses require repositioning for clearance purposes before disconnecting the vacuum hose from the Brake Booster. Use a pair of channel locks to remove the Evaporator outlet tube to txv nut so you can disconnect both the tubing from the txv and from the Evaporator inlet tube. Seal the open a/c refrigerant tubes by using washers before capping and taping them to stop external contamination. Take off the txv from the Evaporator core then discard its sealing washers while capping or taping off the Evaporator core. Before installation remove the covering from the Evaporator core while cleaning the sealing areas of both the txv and Evaporator core with a dry lint-free clean cloth. Place new sealing washers onto the Evaporator core before attaching the txv by securing it with txv to Evaporator bolts which should be tightened to 3.2 n.m (28 lb in). Clean both sealing surfaces of the a/c refrigerant tubes before placing sealing washers on their ends and allowing them to be seated correctly. Following tube placement of the Evaporator inlet tube to Evaporator outlet tube you should install the Evaporator outlet and inlet tubes to txv while tightening the Evaporator outlet tube nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). At the end of the process connect the vacuum hose to the Brake Booster and place the heater hoses correctly while performing vacuum and refrigerant charging on the a/c system and conducting a halogen leak detector test (J 39400-A) on the fittings.
