2002 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle with RPO FE7 on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?
A: The driver needs to elevate and stabilize the vehicle before starting the replacement on the Steering Knuckle with rpo fe7. Start by removing the tire and wheel and continuing with the lower Ball Joint cotter pin and nut removal and wheel drive shaft nut extraction. After removing the brake caliper bolts you need to position the caliper aside from the brake rotor to work. Start by removing the brake rotor from its position then disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector. The steering hub requires removal of its retaining bolts before using the front/rear spindle removal tool (J 28733-B) to extract both hub and drive axle. The device known as steering linkage and Tie Rod puller (J 24319-B) will help disconnect the Tie Rod from the Steering Knuckle whereas Ball Joint separator (J 39549) is used to remove the Ball Joint from the lower Control Arm. After removing Steering Knuckle attaching nuts and bolts you can extract the Steering Knuckle. Fasten the new Steering Knuckle to the strut then tighten strut to knuckle bolts until they become tight at 177 nm (131 ft. Lbs.). Secure the lower Ball Joint with a torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) followed by an additional 190° turn. When installing new components start by adding a cotter pin then secure the Tie Rod by tightening its end to knuckle connection to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while applying an extra 200° torque followed by proper alignment of the cotter pin without loosening the nut. The Steering Knuckle/drive axle requires the hub and bearing which needs to be bolted with 152 nm (112 ft. Lbs.) torque. First reconnect the sensor connector and install the rotor followed by the caliper. The drive axle nut needs installation before torquing it to 215 nm (159 ft. Lbs.) and installing the wheel and tire while torquing them to 125 nm (80 ft. Lbs.), then verifying wheel alignment.
