2002 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Replace a Shock Absorber for RPO FE1 and FE3 on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Vehicle elevation is required to replace a Shock Absorber for rpo fe1 and fe3 along with removal of wheel and tire. The lower Control Arm needs jacking support to disconnect the electronic level control air tube from the shock before unclipping the shock electrical connector and removing the Control Arm wiring. You should unlock the shock to Control Arm connection by removing its 2 bolts before pushing back the trunk trim to access the upper shock and removing its dust cover. Remove two nuts and the reinforcement from the shock before extracting the shock from the vehicle. Put the new shock onto the vehicle while installing the shock upper mount therefore adhering to fastener notice in service precautions. Fasten the shock reinforcement and two nuts before tightening them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and attaching the shock cover while properly repositioning the trunk trim. Install the lower shock bolts at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) following their installation. Then connect the electronic air control air tube to the shock before linking its electrical connector and routing the Control Arm wiring (FE3 and FE45). The final step is to mount the tire with wheel while tightening nuts to 125 nm (80 ft. Lbs.). Before moving the vehicle onto its wheels for driving or lowering onto its wheels on a lift the alc system needs approximately 45 seconds on ignition to perform the arc ensuring shock absorbers have proper residual pressure after which the vehicle can be safely operated.
