2001 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Replace a Shock Absorber (FE1, FE3) on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?
A: You need to replace the Shock Absorber (FE1, FE3) by first raising the vehicle and supporting it while removing the tire and wheel. A jack should support the lower Control Arm before the electronic level control air tube and shock electrical connector need to be disconnected followed by wiring removal from the Control Arm. Begin by removing two bolts which fasten the shock between Control Arm before exposing the upper shock by pulling back trunk trim panels then uninstalling the upper shock dust cover. Place the shock outside of the vehicle after extracting the 2 nuts and reinforcement from it. The new shock needs to be placed onto the vehicle during installation before installing the upper mount according to fastener notice in service precautions. The shock reinforcement must be attached while tightening its two nuts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Then install the shock cover and properly position the trunk trim. Surround the Control Arm with routing before you connect the electrical connector and electronic air control air tube while torquing lower shock bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The installation process ends by attaching the wheel to the tire and applying wheel nuts to 125 nm (80 ft. Lbs.). The alc system requires 45 seconds of ignition on time to perform the arc prior to vehicle lowering process. This step enables the air adjustable shock absorbers to receive residual pressure before the vehicle reaches the ground.
