2002 Cadillac Escalade Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake disc on 2002 Cadillac Escalade?
A: Both rotor resurfacing kit (J41013) and wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A) represent the necessary tools required for front brake rotor replacement. The vehicle needs to be raised for support so the operator can remove the tire wheel assembly. Trace the rotor position regarding the hub and take out the two caliper bracket mounting bolts. Secure the brake caliper to a safe position using heavy mechanic's wire in order to protect the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Install the disassembly of the brake caliper together with its mounting bracket while maintaining connection of the hydraulic brake flexible hose. The rotor retaining push nuts attached to wheel studs should be removed if they exist. The resistance of the rotor to move because of corrosion requires cleaning all surfaces followed by penetrating oil application after inserting two m10 x 1.5 bolts (jack screws) into rotor holes and equal tightening will detach the rotor from the hub. To perform installation clean both the rotor and hub flange surface areas with wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A) and rotor resurfacing kit (J41013). The installation process requires a hub flange which has no visible marks or nicks on it before rotor alignment begins. Seal the caliper bracket mounting bolts with threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) after cleaning their threads before torquing them to 175 nm (121 ft. Lbs.) for 15 series or 300 nm (221 ft. Lbs.) for 25 series. Automatically replace the tire-wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle. Then turn off the engine while using the brake pedal in controlled applications until it reaches two-thirds of its possible travel before slow pedal release. Perform this action again to reach a stable brake pedal and use clean brake fluid to fill the master cylinder reservoir.
