2002 Cadillac Escalade Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal on 2002 Cadillac Escalade?
A: The first step to substitute a crankshaft front oil seal requires removing both the balancer and front cover seal before replacing it. Proper replacement of the crankshaft oil seal requires avoiding lubrication of its sealing surface and the elimination of reused oil seal use. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate both the new oil seal's outer section as well as the front cover oil seal bore before beginning installation. Insert the crankshaft front oil seal onto the J 41478 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (J 41478). The front end of the crankshaft receives the J 41478 threaded rod including nut, washer and guide together with oil seal. Then, use the J 41478 to install the oil seal inside the cover bore. You should use a wrench to maintain grip on the installer bolt hex while applying torque to the installer nut with a second wrench until the front seal reaches full position in the cover bore. Check the front cover bore to verify the oil seal exists in a perfectly installed state after you detach the J 41478. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
