2003 Cadillac Escalade Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2003 Cadillac Escalade?
A: First replace the crankshaft rear oil seal by removing the engine Flywheel together with the crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear cover. The Flywheel spacer needs removal before installation while oil lubrication must be avoided on the oil seal id and crankshaft surface because this rear oil seal cannot be reused. Apply clean engine oil to the outside diameter of the oil seal and the rear cover oil seal bore but avoid coating the seal surface. Set the j41479 crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J41479) with tapered cone and bolts onto the crankshaft rear section before torquing the bolts just until tight but no tighter. The rear oil seal should be positioned at the tapered cone before applying pushing force to the rear cover bore. Move the j41479 threaded rod through the tapered cone until tool contact reaches the oil seal. Then position the oil seal properly within the tool before rotating the tool handle clockwise to set the seal inside the rear cover bore. After using j41479 you can put on the engine Flywheel.
