How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on Cadillac Escalade?

To replace the crankshaft rear seal, you should first remove the engine's Flywheel then remove crankshaft rear oil seal from the back seal. Before installing the new oil seal, make sure the Flywheel spacer (if necessary) is removed, and do not lubricate in the inside diameter (ID) of the oil seal or the surface of the crankshaft, as the replacement of the crankshaft rear oil seal is prohibited. Start by lubricating the outside diameter (OD) of the new oil seal with fresh clean engine oil and avoid any rubbing of the lubricants with the od of the seal. Next, grease the rear cover oil seal bore with clean engine oil, without touching the crankshaft surface. Install the (J 41479) crankshaft rear oil seal installer and bolts the tapered cone onto the rear of the crankshaft, tightening the bolts just until they are tight but not over tightening. Smear the rear oil seal on the tapered cone and apply pressure towards the rear cover bore. Threading j 41479 threaded rod into the tapered cone until tool contacts the oil seal, insert oil seal into the tool. Set the handle of the toll before the seal engages the rear cover and rests on the cover bore. Last but not the least, replace the j-41479 and the engine Flywheel.
