2007 Cadillac Escalade Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal (140) for RPOs LY6/L76/L92 on 2007 Cadillac Escalade?
A: The replacement process of crankshaft front oil seal (140) for RPOs LY6/L76/L92 starts by taking out the crankshaft balancer followed by removing the existing seal from the front cover. Any wetting of the sealing surface for the oil seal should be avoided during installation while the reuse of the crankshaft front oil seal is strictly prohibited. Lubricate both new oil seal (140) edges and front cover oil seal bore using clean engine oil. To install the crankshaft front oil seal (140) you should use the Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (J 41478). After feeding the J 41478 threaded rod with its components into the crankshaft's end section use the J 41478 to embed the oil seal into the cover bore. While holding the hex part of the installer bolt with a wrench you should use a second wrench to turn the installer nut clockwise until the seal sits perfectly in the cover bore. Following installation remove the J 41478 tool while checking that the front cover bore has an even and full oil seal installation. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
