2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the right rear parking brake cable (without/RPO NYS) on 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?
A: You must start cable replacement of the right rear parking brake (without/RPO NYS) by first releasing the brake function and then lifting the vehicle properly. Before unosigning the cable from the equalizer you must first reduce cable tension through a nut installed at the equalizer. The installation of the new right rear parking brake cable starts by removing the bolt from the rear axle clip followed by removing the cable from both the differential clip and the mounting bracket through releasing its locking tabs. Start by removing the cable through the left and right side cable guides and from track bar clips as well as from 15 series utilities. The cable should detach from the lever except in 15 series utilities to continue the installation process. The procedure must be repeated during the cable removal process from the backing plate and lever on 15 series utilities. The installation of the new cable requires proper fitting through the guides and body mounts before pressing it into the backing plate until the locking tabs snap for 15 series utilities. Complete the process by linking the cable to the lever followed by correct guide and body mount routing checks for all Except 15 series utilities before cable-point attachment at the backing plate. Install the track bar cable securities using clips at the proper track bar locales for 15 series utilities. Follow this order to install the cable first to both lateral guides and afterward to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs securely snap into place. Screw the cable onto the differential clips and tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Check the rear axle holding clip secured its position by hand crimping it if needed before moving ahead. The cable needs connecting first to differential clips before moving to the equalizer while the nut securing it at the equalizer needs to be tightened to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.). The last step includes lowering the vehicle and removing safety stands before adjusting the park brake cable.
