Rear Cable

You must first release the park brake and afterward raise and maintain the vehicle before performing the replacement. Begin the replacement of the park brake cable on a 1500 series first design by loosening tension using a downward pull on the front cable before the equalizer and then removing cables (2, 3) from the equalizer bar. The process for replacing the park brake cable starts by removing the nut from the threaded end of the intermediate cable to disconnect the equalizer from rear park brake cables in 1500 series with the second design and in 2500 series. The procedure continues with disconnecting the intermediate cable from the front cable and taking out the entire intermediate cable. Begin the intermediate cable installation by attaching it to both front cable and equalizer to rear park brake cables and secure the threaded end nut for 1500 series models with the second design or 2500 series vehicles before tightening it to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). Install the brake cables (2, 3) to the equalizer according to a 1500 series with the first design cable before you can remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle for park brake adjustments.

First, release the park brake and raise and support the vehicle.

Attach the cable to the lever, ensuring proper routing through the guides and body mounts for all except 15 series utilities before securing it to the backing plate.

Disengage the grommet and cable from the floor pan.

Install the cable at the shock absorber bracket and secure it with a bolt tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
