2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: The first step for Oil Pan replacement includes lifting the vehicle and securing it properly. The drain pan must be placed under the transaxle Oil Pan while ensuring that the Oil Pan sealing surfaces remain undamaged during bolt removal because oil leakage could occur. First remove the Oil Pan bolts that face forward and the sides before giving the bolts located at the rear about four rotational turns. You should gently strike the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet before using a pry tool to drop the fluid out. After the fluid drains completely you can remove the remaining bolts and detach the Oil Pan along with its gasket. Inspection of the Oil Pan must reveal no damage or dents which must be dry before installing. Put in a fresh oil gasket before you place the Oil Pan that might need replacement. The Oil Pan attaching bolts should be tightened to 14 nm (124 inch lbs.). After lowering the vehicle, add transmission fluid to check its level and check for Oil Pan gasket leakage.
