  • Q: How to replace the Seat Cushion Pad and trim cover on 2002 Chevrolet Corvette?
    A: The process to replace a seat cushion trim cover and pad begins by taking off the seat and unattaching the seat belt buckle from the base before moving on to the recliner handle detachment using a suitable blunt-ended tool to push down the handle retaining spring clip and pull the handle from the shaft. Begin by removing the side trim panel (power seat) followed by taking off the hog-rings from the rear flap and then raising the flap. Continuing with the procedure unfastens the draw string until you can easily remove the hog-rings attaching the rear corners of the seat cushion trim cover before tackling the cover and foam pad removal. The installation process requires that all recliner mechanism cable retention clips must snap into place onto the actuators. In case the draw string needs replacement, start by removing hog-rings from the seat cushion cover rear flap. Untie the draw string and make two 100 mm (2 in) small cuts just outside the center of the cushion cover before pulling enough draw string length to join its ends with a square knot constructed at least one inch beyond the knot. Place the trim cover over the seat foam before securing the cover and foam onto the seat frame by tightening the draw string at the seat back then tie it securely. Secure the rear sides of the seat cushion trim cover using hog-rings and if draw strings were cut, separate the front seat material from the string before attaching with hog-rings while avoiding any point-down positioning of hog-ring points. The seat assembly requires installation of hog-rings that attach the rear center flap and the side trim panel (power seat) and the recliner handle with the handle retaining spring clip positioned into locking position and the handle snapped into place on the reclining mechanism shaft. The last step includes fitting the seat belt buckle onto the seat frame followed by tightening the seat belt buckle side mounting nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft). Then return the seat to its original position.
