The dimension between the lower edge of the upper jacket and its specified reference on the lower jacket should be measured to verify jacket assembly collapse; replace the assembly if measurements exceed specified limits. A visual examination of the Steering Shaft needs to be performed for sheared injected plastic material; in case sheared plastic is detected it means the Steering Shaft requires replacement. The lower end of the Steering Shaft runout measurement with a dial indicator reveals excessive 1.59 mm (0.0625 inch) runout is not acceptable when you rotate the steering wheel.
