A technician should start the Heater Core replacement by emptying engine coolant and recovering a/c system refrigerant. The replacement process starts by removing first the coolant recovery reservoir and then moving onto battery and A/C Accumulator removal. First detach the heater hoses from the Heater Core before removing the screws from the heater case. Gently open the Heater Core access door before trimming the indicated section. Start by detaching both retainers then remove the Heater Core from the vehicle. To install the new Heater Core position it within the vehicle before attaching the retainers through screw tightening at 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). Replace the Heater Core access door while securing it with retaining screws which need a torque of 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). The installation process requires reattachment of the heater hoses followed by joining the A/C Accumulator with the battery and coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank installation. The procedure ends by evacuating and recharging the a/c system followed by filling the engine coolant into its proper level.
