2002 Chevrolet Impala Throttle Body Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the throttle body assembly on 2002 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before changing the Throttle Body assembly, first off the ignition and drain the engine coolant. Pull the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector, the breather tube from the air intake tube, and take out the air intake tube. Then, you need to remove the iac valve electrical connector, accelerator controls cable from the throttle lever and accelerator cable bracket, as well as throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector. In case it applies, pull the cruise control cable loose from the throttle leverage and accelerator bracket then remove the acceleration control cable bracket. Loosen the Throttle Body coolant and the heater pipe nut on the Throttle Body, followed by removing the nuts and bolts attaching the Throttle Body to the Intake Manifold as well as the Throttle Body assembly bypass hoses. Clean the gasket surfaces on Intake Manifold and Throttle Body assembly while not using solvent, and install a new gasket, if necessary, before installing a Throttle Body assembly. Use the nuts and bolts to secure the Throttle Body and tighten nuts and bolts to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Reconnect the Throttle Body coolant bypass hoses, heater pipe nut, iac valve electrical connector, and the tp sensor electrical connector. Mount the accelerator controls cable bracket, rejoin the cruise control cable if required, and connect the accelerator controls cable. It is important to reinstall the air intake tube, connect the iat sensor electrical connector, and the breather tube to the air intake tube. Finally, fill up the engine coolant and verify that the throttle works properly as well as evaluating any binding between closed and wide open as well as testing throttle operations for its full opening and closing while also observing poor carpet fit at the accelerator pedal.
