2002 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2002 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: You need to start by taking off the air cleaner assembly. Then disconnect the underhood electrical center from its bracket and place it aside. Deflect the underhood electrical center bracket with care. Sever the connection of the master cylinder to the hydraulic Brake Booster then secure the insulator between the parts from falling out. Unplug the vacuum hose assembly connected to the booster check valve and remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Turn off the booster retaining nuts and disconnect the booster pushrod from the Brake Pedal while gently tilting the vacuum Brake Booster to disengage the pushrod without using strong side forces. Position the new booster into its location and bring the brake pushrod to the pedal. Place the booster in a slight tilt position to attach the pushrod without straining the pedal clevis pin. Smash the booster retaining nuts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and put back the left closeout/insulator panel. Join the vacuum hoseconnection and booster check valve to the booster unit before installing the master cylinder onto both booster and cylinder units respectively. You should replace the underhood electrical center bracket after reconnecting the electrical center followed by installing the air cleaner assembly.
