• Q: How to replace the inner CV Joint and seal on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?

  A: To remove the inner joint and seal of the constant velocity joint, first, take out the wheel drive shaft, and the large side inner joint boot clamp using the j 35566 seal clamp tool, and then the small side inner joint boot clamp. Push the boot towards the center of the wheel drive shaft and mark index marks on the inner joint housing and the wheel drive shaft for right assembly. Disassemble the inner joint housing from the tripot joint spider and marking on the tripot joint spider and the wheel drive shaft . Take off the snap ring from the wheel drive shaft and drive out the tripot joint from the wheel drive shaft using a brass drift and hammer, which should be inserted on the tripot body. Clean the tripot joint with a clean, dry, solvent-free cloth and examine it for wear or damage to a point of excessive wear, and then, if necessary, replace it. Take off the inner part of the boot surrounding the wheel drive shaft and wipe it with a solvent-free cloth, checking for tears or damage. Inspect the right wheel drive shaft dynamic dampener for any problem and replace it if required. After using the j 22912-01 bearing puller to extract the inner joint housing seal, you should install a new inner joint seal using a press. Mount the inner joint boot and clamps on the inner joint housing, in the process measuring the wheel drive shaft length to avoid stretching the boots or over contracting it; the right wheel drive shaft standard length is 857.4 mm (33.756 inch) +/- 5.0 mm (0.197 inch) and the left wheel drive standard length is 540.2 mm (21.268) inch +/- 5.0 mm (0.197 inch). Apply the j 35566 to tighten the closing hooks of the clamp to each other, and crimp the clamps with the j 35566, boot's check for distortion or dents, and attend if need, before reinstalling the wheel drive shaft.
