2002 Chevrolet Prizm Flywheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine flywheel on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Starting the replacement of the engine Flywheel requires users to begin by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Next, remove the transaxle assembly. A manual transmission vehicle must first have its clutch replaced with a Pressure Plate followed by bolt removal of the eight Flywheel retaining bolts to extract the Flywheel from the Crankshaft. You must apply an appropriate solvent to wipe away all grease and dirt that remains on the Crankshaft flange outer face. You should install the Flywheel on the Crankshaft while applying gm p/n 12345493 (or any equivalent product) to the Flywheel retaining bolt threads. The Crankshaft receipt bolts (1-8) of automatic transmission vehicles should be installed before tightening them to 83 nm (61 ft. Lbs.) torque specification. With manual transmission vehicles the Flywheel retaining bolts must be installed and torqued in sequence to 49 nm (36 ft. Lbs.) before additional 90 degrees of tightening takes place using j 36660-a torque angle meter. The first step requires reinstalling the clutch and Pressure Plate as well as the transaxle assembly when possible. The process ends with the rewiring of the negative Battery Cable and securing the cable bolt with torque at 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.).
