- Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?A: Vehicle elevation and supporting are needed before replacing the Oil Pan. Start by placing a drain pan under the engine Oil Pan followed by removing both the Drain Plug and gasket to drain all engine oil. When dealing with a manual transaxle-equipped vehicle you should begin by removing both the flywheel inspection cover and the right side lower engine splash shield. Before refitting the lower cylinder block, remove two nuts (3, 14) and fourteen bolts (1, 2, 4-13, 15, 16) from their positions while preventing any harm to the Oil Pan contact surface. Begin by cleaning the mating surfaces between the engine Oil Pan and lower cylinder block and the inside of the Oil Pan before installing it back. Installation requires a continuous application of silicon sealant gm p/n 12346240 at the engine Oil Pan mating surface followed by Oil Pan fixture. Use fourteen bolts (1, 2, 4-13, 15, 16) and two nuts (3, 14) to fasten the Oil Pan before torquing them to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). After replacing the right side lower engine splash shield and flywheel cover install the engine oil Drain Plug and gasket with a torque value of 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). Afterward drain the Oil Pan then refuel the engine before checking the oil pressure gauges.
