2002 Chevrolet Tahoe Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the brake master cylinder on 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe?
A: Position the Brake Master Cylinder mounting flange in a bench vise so you can reach and access the rear of the primary Piston. Inspection requires you to examine the outside reservoir cap region before taking out the master cylinder components to test their evident cuts and damage. Replace damaged parts immediately. Use a smooth tool to push down on the primary Piston using an appropriate tool while pulling out both the Piston retainer and primary Piston assembly from the cylinder bore. Put on all air ports before pumping low pressure air into the outlet port to push out the secondary Piston assembly and its components including the main and secondary seals plus the spring. Take away the primary Piston parts, Piston retainer and seals from the secondary Piston. Clean the master cylinder interior and components with denatured alcohol or an equivalent then inspect the parts for damage. Replace the unit if any problems exist. Apply delco supreme ii brake fluid gm p/n 12377967 into the master cylinder bore and secure it with filtered non-lubricant air before lubricating the secondary Piston return spring and overhaul parts with the same brake fluid. Set the lubricated new primary seal and retainer with the secondary seal on top of the secondary Piston. Then slide the lubricated return spring and secondary Piston assembly into the cylinder bore, followed by loading the lubricated new primary Piston assembly. Push the primary Piston down using a smooth tool while installing the new Piston retainer. Put back the master cylinder reservoir with its cap and diaphragm to finish the task.
