2002 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2002 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: To replace the Camshaft, one should first disconnect the negative Battery Cable, then remove the Crankshaft Pulley and Timing Belt from the engine as well as the valve rocker arm cover. Thereafter use an appropriate tool to hold the Camshaft Timing Belt pulley so that one may remove the Camshaft Timing Belt pulley bolt and pulley itself. Then remove the Timing Belt inner cover , the Camshaft sensor , and ground wire from the Camshaft sensor housing , and the wiring harness . Put a shop rag under Camshaft housing to prevent oil dropping while taking out the three Camshaft sensor bolts and then the housing from the Cylinder Head. Loosen all valve adjusting screw lock nuts and turn the adjusting screws back so that the rocker arms they are connected to can move freely. Finally, extracts the cam shaft from the valve head as a whole and the cam shaft oil seal. For the installation, coat the cams, journals and oil seal with clean engine oil and use the Camshaft to install it in the Cylinder Head. Tighten the housing bolts in the sequence mentioned above using the engine oil applied to them, tighten them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Mount the Camshaft oil seal so that it is flush with the surface of the housing, then reinstall the Timing Belt inner cover. While installing the Camshaft timing sprocket see that the pin on the Camshaft goes into the slot marked "e" on the sprocket and fasten it using the Camshaft timing sprocket bolt tightened to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs). Mount the Camshaft sensor housing onto the engine block work and tighten the bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.), add the Camshaft sensor and ground wire, tighten the sensor bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The valve rocker arm cover must also be temporarily installed, Timing Belt then removed and the Timing Belt should be adjusted afterwards. Replace the valve rocker arm cover again. Finally, attach Crankshaft Pulley and reconnect the negative Battery Cable, tightening it at 15 nm(11 ft. Lbs).
