- Q: How to replace the thermostat on a 1.6L engine on 2002 Chevrolet Tracker?A: Starting by draining engine coolant and taking off the Thermostat Housing clamp leads to removing the Radiator Hose before accessing the Thermostat. Three bolts fix the Thermostat Housing to the Intake Manifold so you must remove them before taking out the Thermostat and its o-ring from the housing. Clear away rust and residue from both the Thermostat Housing and the Intake Manifold connection areas afterward check the Thermostat. During setup of the new Thermostat, carefully place the air bleed valve at the engine's upper section before inserting the Thermostat into the Cylinder Head using a new o-ring. Fasten the Thermostat Housing to the Intake Manifold by applying 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) torque to its three bolts. Following Radiator Hose installation to the Thermostat Housing you must fill the Radiator with approved coolant before starting the engine. The coolant needs to achieve operational temperature before testing by checking otherwise hose heat along with Radiator coolant flow. After checking for cooling system leaks turn off the engine before installation of the Radiator Cap.
