- Q: How to service and repair the thermostat on 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?A: The service and repair of a Thermostat requires the initial removal of engine coolant. The Radiator hose needs clamp removal from Thermostat Housing before disconnecting the hose at the housing. After detaching the three bolts holding the Thermostat Housing to the Intake Manifold you can remove the combination of Thermostat and o-ring from the housing. Thoroughly clean the Thermostat Housing along with the Intake Manifold mating areas before checking the Thermostat's condition. To install the air bleed valve on the Thermostat set it near the engine top before installing the Thermostat correctly into the Cylinder Head with new o-ring placement. Tighten three bolts on the Thermostat Housing to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) while mounting it to the Intake Manifold. After attaching the hose clamps to the Thermostat Housing you must fill the Radiator with approved coolant before starting the engine. Temperature your cooling system properly by waiting until both coolant hoses become warm to touch while coolant flows freely through the Radiator. Start by inspecting for cooling system leaks before turning off the engine to install the Radiator cap.
