2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: You can change the rear brake pads after checking the brake fluid level in the reservoir; if the fluid is in the middle range, you can start the work but if it is above that point remove excess fluid with the brake fluid tool. Lift up the vehicle while taking off the tire and wheel set. Squeeze the Brake Caliper Piston forward with a c-clamp over its top segment against the brake caliper back until the brake caliper clears the rotor and then disconnect the clamp. After lowering the brake caliper rotate it to the end stop point. Then take off the rear brake pads along with their clips from both the bracket and the caliper and remove the caliper mounting bracket bolt. Wipe the Brake Caliper Bracket with denatured alcohol then blow it dry with filtered non-lubed air. During Brake Pad installation use new clips for both pads and the brake caliper so position the brake pads first then install the new Brake Pad retaining clips onto the caliper bracket before inserting the caliper itself and aligning the Brake Pad clip correctly. Fit the brake caliper retaining clip into position then lift the rear brake caliper up for placement and fasten the top brake caliper bolt at 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). Place the tire and wheel back onto their sockets before lowering the car and topping up the brake master cylinder if necessary. Ramp your Brake Pedal with gentle pressure to allow the brake pads to settle down while you also burnish the new elements during this process.
