• Q: How to replace the front brake disc on 2002 GMC Envoy?

  A: First, check the brake fluid reservoir in the brake master cylinder to be sure the level is up, then; if it is more than midway between the max which is the full point and the min allowable level remove excess fluid to bring up to midway. Lift the vehicle and detach the tire and wheel assembly. Apply a large c-clamp (J 42450-A) so that the top of brake caliper housing is clamped against the back of the outboard Brake Pad and squeeze the front Brake Caliper Piston using the large c-clamp until the piston is moved back enough for the brake caliper to be slid off the rotor. Now, detach the mounting bolts of the brake caliper mounting bracket and remove the brake caliper and mounting bracket assembly. After removing the retaining clips from the brake rotor, clean the rotor and flange mating surface with the Wheel Hub cleaning kit (J 42450-A) to eradicate any rust or foreign substance that could lead to an increased amount of lateral runout and brake pulsation. If the rotor is not to be changed, leave trace of the relation to a wheel stud before taking off the rotor from the Wheel Hub. Clean the brake rotor contact zone with the front hub using the Wheel Hub cleaning kit (J 42450-A) and then replace the new or the already cleaned brake rotor while ensuring that the relationship marks are on the same stand as the wheel stud. Mount the brake caliper assembly into the Steering Knuckle and fasten it with brake caliper mounting bolt and tighten the bolt to 150 nm (110 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, re-install the tire and wheel assembly and lower the vehicle, check the brake master cylinder up to the correct level, apply a slow and firm effort on the brake pedal to seat the brakes and burnish the replaced or re-finished rotors.
