2002 GMC Envoy Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2002 GMC Envoy?
A: The first step to changing the Oil Pan starts with unbolting the bottom of the A/C Compressor before loosening top bolts (2, 3) then eliminating the oil level indicator and its tube. Begin by jacking up the vehicle and uninstalling both front wheel assemblies before removing bolts from the engine shielding mounts along with the engine shield itself. Starting with the front steering gear crossmember then you must remove both left and right wheel drive shafts along with the front drive axle clutch fork assembly. The first step involves disconnecting the prop shaft from the pinion yoke of the front axle followed by draining oil through the Oil Pan Drain Plug removal. First remove the front Differential bolts before setting the assembly aside. Then unclip the transmission cooler lines from the engine block. Remove first the 4 transmission bell housing bolts that connect to the Oil Pan before taking out the remaining Oil Pan bolts. Installation begins with hooking the jack screws through two Oil Pan bolts before tightening each screw with equal force to free the engine from the Oil Pan. After cleaning and pan inspection continue with the following instructions. To install the Oil Pan use gm pn 12378521 sealer gm at a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead amount on the block surface then perform pan installation before ten minutes pass after seal application. Clear the Oil Pump and screen assembly by maneuvering the Oil Pan while installing Oil Pan bolts before checking alignment with a straight edge examination of the block's rear and the transmission mounting surface of the Oil Pan. Tighten the side bolts of the Oil Pan to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) but limit the end bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The work proceeds by first torquing the 4 transmission bell housing bolts to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) afterward installing the bottom A/C Compressor bolts until they reach 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). After securing the front Differential bolts to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.) reattach the front drive axle clutch fork assembly before fastening the transmission cooler lines to the block. The prop shaft meets its connection point with the front Differential before the crossmember installation of the steering gear follows by attaching left and right wheel drive shafts. After completing Oil Pan Drain Plug installation torque the plug to 26 nm (19 ft. Lbs.) while using engine protection shield bolts torqued to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Next reinstall the left and right front tires before lowering the vehicle to assess for engine oil leaks. Then proceed with engine oil service.
