2003 GMC Envoy Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2003 GMC Envoy?
A: Beginning the Oil Pan replacement requires first removing the A/C Compressor bottom bolts while loosening top bolts (2, 3) followed by removing the oil level indicator and tube. To start the replacement procedure raise the vehicle then remove each wheel assembly followed by removing engine protection shield mounting bolts. Begin by taking out the front steering gear crossmember and the left and right wheel drive shafts and the front drive axle clutch fork assembly. First drain the oil by removing the Oil Pan Drain Plug while also disconnecting the prop shaft from the front axle pinion yoke. Begin by discharging the transmission cooler lines from their position on the engine block then remove all front Differential bolts before setting the Differential component to the side. First remove four bell housing attachment bolts connected to the Oil Pan then uninstall all Oil Pan bolts. Jiggle the Oil Pan with two bolts embedded in jack screws until evenly loose then remove it from the engine block for cleaning. The installation requires a 3 mm (0.12 inch) gm pn 12378521 sealer bead on the block followed by prompt transmission pan installation within ten minutes of bead application. Control the Oil Pan for clearance from the Oil Pump and screen assembly before installing Oil Pan bolts while checking alignment against a straight edge measuring between the block's back surface and Oil Pan transmission mounting surface. Tighten all side bolts of the Oil Pan to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and end bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the 4 transmission bell housing bolts while tightening each with a torque of 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) then torque the A/C Compressor bottom bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Bit torque the front Differential bolts to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.) while fitting the front drive axle clutch fork assembly before connecting the transmission cooler lines to the block surface. Finished works include front Differential prop shaft installation followed by steering gear crossmember and left and right wheel drive shaft installation. Secure the engine protection shield with bolts at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) then install the left and right front tires before lowering the vehicle to check for oil leaks before performing an oil service. Finish the installation by installing the Oil Pan Drain Plug with a torque of 26 nm (19 ft. Lbs.).
