2002 GMC Safari A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a refrigeration system on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: First, you have to remove the air cleaner to be able to change the accumulator. Recover the refrigerant out of the system. Then, take the accumulator nut off the Evaporator, the compressor suction hose off the accumulator, and then the o-ring seals. Turn off the electrical connections and eliminate the pressure switch. Then remove the mounting bracket bolt and the mounting bracket itself and remove the accumulator. If not replacing the accumulator, install sealing caps. To install, start by installing the accumulator mounting bracket, then followed by the mounting bracket bolt and tightening to 4 n.m (35 lb in). Mounting pressure switch and connecting the electrical contacts. Next place new o-ring seals and the compressor suction hose to the accumulator and fasten the accumulator nut to the Evaporator tightening it to 27 n. M (20 Lb.ft). Evacuate and charge the system then conduct leak test on (s) fitting(s) of the repaired or replaced component using halogen leak detector (Jinement 39400-A). Finally, install the air cleaner.
