2001 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the A/C Accumulator on 2001 GMC Safari?
A: The required tool for servicing and repairing the A/C Accumulator includes a tool called halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). The service starts with removing refrigerant from the cooling system. Start by extracting the air cleaner then continue by removing both the upper radiator shroud along with the grille. Centrally cut the evaporator tube from the vehicle while numbering the bend near the high side access port 40 mm (1.5 in) from the initial point then repeat the measurement at 50.8 mm (2 in) from the original mark. The tubing cutter should slice the marked evaporator tube while protecting the tube from metal burrs during the cutting and removing process. The A/C Accumulator will operate without the o-rings at this point although you need to discard its nuts and ferrules. Fit the A/C Accumulator to the evaporator tube with its flow arrow facing the evaporator while positioning the small end of the ferrules towards the nuts before pushing the ferrules and nuts onto both sides of the evaporator tube. The evaporator tube inside the A/C Accumulator requires nuts that need to be tightened to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Put 525 viscosity refrigerant oil onto the o-rings before placing them on the evaporator tube and insert the nuts into the A/C Accumulator. The installation of the A/C Accumulator requires nut tightening to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The final steps include reattaching the evaporator tube to the vehicle followed by a/c system refilling and halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) usage to inspect leak possibility of repaired components and their respective fittings. The process should conclude by placing back the upper radiator shroud and grille together with the air cleaner.
