2001 GMC Safari Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the auxiliary evaporator core on 2001 GMC Safari?
A: Recovery of the refrigerant from the system should be the first step when servicing or repairing the auxiliary evaporator core assembly. Start by removing the left body side rear trim panel together with the air outlet duct assembly and disconnect the electrical connectors. Lift and stabilize the vehicle before you unfasten the retaining nut to pull off the auxiliary evaporator rear tube assembly from the core. Lower the vehicle and take off the bolts which fasten the case to the vehicle then extract the auxiliary evaporator module assembly. Start by removing case screws before using your hands to divide the case into two sections for reaching and extracting the core seal together with its evaporator core. Gaskets and seals should be inspected for any damage before conducting replacements as needed. To install the evaporator core first add it into the case followed by proper installation of the evaporator core seal before constructing the separated case halves. Fasten the auxiliary evaporator module assembly to the vehicle while installing bolts to secure the case which need to be tightened to 10 N.m (86 lb in). When supporting the vehicle's height again you must mount the auxiliary evaporator underbody rear tube assembly to the core through the retaining nut while tightening it to 10 N.m (86 lb in). Return power connections then place the air outlet duct assembly together with the left body side rear trim panel. The last step includes evacuating and recharging the system while conducting a fitting leak test on the component with the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
