2000 GMC Safari Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2000 GMC Safari?
A: The first step to replace the Evaporator core requires removing the air cleaner along with refrigerant recovery and coolant recovery reservoir removal. The first step involves disconnecting electrical cables then taking the compressor hose assembly out from the accumulator before removing the bypass valve bracket from the outer case. Commence by removing the Evaporator tube from both the accumulator then the relay bracket before taking out the tube from the Evaporator itself. Begin by unscrewing the outer Evaporator case and afterwards detach the outer case from the module. To split the Evaporator module in half, remove all screws along with taking out both the inner case and core parts. Place the Evaporator core in its correct position according to the fastener notice before fastening the inner case onto the Evaporator module while tightening screws to 6 nm (53 lb in). After fitting the Evaporator module with the outer case, you must fasten the screws at 6 nm (53 lb in). Install the Evaporator tube onto the Evaporator and afterwards connect the bypass valve bracket on the outer case before hooking up the Evaporator to the accumulator. Reinstall the compressor hose assembly to the accumulator before installing the relay bracket followed by electrical connectors. The process ends with the installation of the air cleaner after you refill engine coolant and evacuate the system and recharge it followed by reinstalling the coolant recovery reservoir.
