2000 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a refrigeration system on 2000 GMC Safari?
A: Begin the accumulator replacement process by taking off the air cleaner then recovering system refrigerant. As a first step remove the accumulator nut that connects to the Evaporator and then disconnect the compressor and condenser hose from the accumulator. Begin by removing o-ring seals from the accumulator and disconnect the electrical connectors followed by removing the pressure switch. Start by removing the mounting bracket bolt together with the mounting bracket then pull out the accumulator. Sealing caps must be installed if you do not plan to replace your accumulator. Fitting begins with accumulator attachment to the Evaporator while tightening to 48 n.m (35 lb ft) and ends with the mounting bracket installation followed by tightening its bolt to 4 n.m (35 lb in). After connecting electrical wiring the installer must apply 525 viscosity refrigerant oil on new o-ring seals before placing them into position. First connect the compressor and condenser hose to the accumulator then secure the accumulator nut to the Evaporator. As the last step evacuate and charge the system while verifying no leaks occur before installing the air cleaner.
