2000 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the auxiliary heater core on 2000 GMC Safari?
A: The replacement process of the auxiliary heater core begins with draining the engine coolant. You must first remove the body side front lower trim panel together with the auxiliary heater pipes clamps before disconnecting the heater pipes from the auxiliary heater module. Disconnect the screws together with the band clamp which secures the heater core both on its right and left sides. Protective covering should be placed on the floor before removing the auxiliary heater module to stop coolant from dripping onto carpeting. Take out the heater core from the heater core case until you successfully remove its seals from the core. Install the heater core first by placing seals onto it and then putting the heater core inside the heater core case for installation. Secure the screw and the band clamp at the left side of the heater core with 2 N.m (18 lb in) torque while the right side goes through the same installation process with 2 N.m (18 lb in) torque. The remnant auxiliary heater pipes need to reconnect to their module after inserting clamps to cover the pipes before reapplying the front lower body trim panel. After engine coolant addition the system requires leak inspection.
