2002 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a water pump on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: Before handling the Water Pump start by waiting until the engine cools down and drain all the coolant from the Radiator. Take off the air cleaner assembly plus map sensor plus upper Fan Shroud along with the Drive Belt fan and Fan Blade clutch assembly. Disassemble the coolant system by removing the ng number bolts from the coolant pump pulley then disconnecting both the coolant bypass hose and clamps before unhinging the Radiator outlet hose from the pump. Replace the coolant pump with its gaskets through the four bolts after making sure both gasket typings are smooth and burr-free. Check every component parts before your replacements. After placing new coolant pump gaskets install the pump by threading four bolts to 45 nm torque setting (33 ft. Lbs.). Connect both coolant bypass hose and clamps while linking the Radiator outlet hose to the coolant pump. Secure the coolant pump pulley bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque. To complete the reinstallment put in the fan motor unit and Fan Blade clutcher followed by the v-belt system and Fan Shroud with its bolts along with the maf sensor and air filter assembly. Start up your engine once the Radiator has fresh cool liquid inside then check for leaks once normal running temperature is achieved.
