2002 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a thermostat on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: Begin by ensuring the engine has cooled down enough so you don't get burned before you drain the coolant until it reaches the Thermostat's position. Start by disconnecting the ground lead from the coolant outlet and removing the bolt/stud and bolt on the outlet before removing the outlet itself. Clean all parts and sealing surfaces before you proceed with Thermostat removal. First place the Thermostat then position the coolant outlet during installation. After settling the bolt/stud and the bolt into position you must tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) before reconnecting the ground lead to the bolt/stud. Start the engine after air cleaner assembly reinstallation and coolant refilling to check for leaks when engine temperature reaches normal performance level.
