2003 GMC Safari Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a thermostat on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: To replace the Thermostat first make sure there are no burns with a hot engine, then drain the coolant to a level lower than Thermostat. Remove the air cleaner assembly as well as disconnect the ground lead from the coolant outlet, and remove the bolt/stud and the bolt on the coolant outlet before removing the coolant outlet itself. Next, purge thermdstat and clean all parts and sealing surface. For installation, the Thermostat and the coolant outlet have to be repositioned. Install the bolt and bolt/stud and tighten it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), then follow it with a reconnection of the ground lead to the bolt/stud. Replace the air cleaner assembly, refill the coolant and restart the engine checking the leakage after it comes to the normal use temperature.
