2003 Buick Century Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2003 Buick Century?
A: A bench vise should securely hold the mounting flange of the Brake Master Cylinder for you to reach and service the primary Piston in the rear. Attach suitable fittings to the master cylinder ports using the required flare seat and insert transparent hoses for connection to the master cylinder reservoir. The fittings receive transparent tubes leading directly into the master cylinder reservoir. The master cylinder reservoir requires delco supreme ii or gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid filled up to the midpoint of the reservoir capacity while both hose ends remain beneath the fluid surface in a clean sealed fluid container. A smooth round-ended tool should be used to depress and release the primary Piston multiple times while observing fluid flow from the ports to a depth of 25 mm (1 inch). The bleeding process of air from the primary and secondary pistons will cause an increase in the force needed to depress the primary Piston along with its travel becoming shorter. The operator should repeat this action as needed until the ports show full fluid flow without developing bubbles. You should remove the transparent hoses from the reservoir followed by replacing the master cylinder reservoir cap and diaphragm and pulling fittings with hoses off of the ports while wiping the master cylinder with a clean shop cloth to stop spills. You should take the master cylinder off from the vise during the final step.
