2003 Buick Century Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2003 Buick Century?
A: Begin Fuel Rail assembly replacement by reading the eight-digit identification number which services even cylinders 2, 4 and 6 that appears on the left-hand Fuel Rail. Follow these installation instructions for the fuel injector o-rings because black ones should sit uppermost while brown ones should remain lower regardless of their sizes which also differ in material types. Fit caps to prevent contamination on the fittings while the service involves plugging holes. Start servicing the system by taking off the negative battery cable while you drain fuel system pressure. First remove the upper Intake Manifold and then remove two components: the fuel pipe retainer clip bolt and the engine fuel feed pipe from the Fuel Rail until you reach the engine fuel return pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Begin the task by discarding the o-rings from the feed and return pipes followed by disconnecting the main fuel injector wiring harness connector and activating the lock release on electrical fuel injector connectors before tab depression results in their separation. The procedure to extract the Fuel Rail assembly starts with disconnecting the fuel injector wiring harness from the Fuel Rail, removing the electrical connector from the ect sensor and removing all Fuel Rail bolts. All o-ring seals of the fuel injectors that show damage must be thrown away. When installing the Fuel Rail system components must be treated with care while plugging all ports and never utilize compressed air or solvent baths for Fuel Rail assembly handling. New Fuel Injector O-Ring seals should be installed on each injector spray tip end before lubricating them with clean engine oil and fitting the Fuel Rail assembly into the Intake Manifold while adjusting the tilt for injector placement. Secure the Fuel Rail by tightly installing bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in) then reconnect the ect sensor electrical connector before attaching the fuel injector wiring harness to the Fuel Rail. Reattach the fuel injector electrical connectors while securing the slide lock in position followed by connecting the main fuel injector wiring harness electrical connector. Install new o-rings on fuel feed and return pipes before you attach the fuel feed pipe to the Fuel Rail which needs to be tightened to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Then proceed by attaching the fuel return pipe to the Fuel Pressure Regulator and tighten it to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Reinstall the upper Intake Manifold and reconnect the negative battery cable after you install the fuel pipe retainer clip bolt at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). To check for leaks activate the ignition for two seconds before turning it off for ten seconds then on again for leak inspection.
