2002 Buick Century Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2002 Buick Century?
A: First step before Fuel Rail assembly replacement is to record the eight-digit identification marking on the left-hand rail which serves even cylinders two through four and six. All Fuel Injector O-Ring installation should be done properly with the black o-ring above the brown o-ring when colors differ from each other. The fittings should be capped alongside plugging holes to stop contamination during maintenance work. Proceed by depressurizing the fuel system and detach the upper Intake Manifold together with the engine compartment fuel pipe retainer bolt. The service requires disconnecting the engine fuel feed pipe from the Fuel Rail and the engine fuel return pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator before discarding the o-rings. Users should disconnect the main injector harness electrical connector and use a finger to pull up the lock release of the fuel injector connector to depress the lock tab which allows removing the fuel injection harness from the Fuel Rail. The worker removes the sensor electrical connector for the coolant temperature and the Fuel Rail retaining bolts before disassembling the Fuel Rail assembly to discard o-ring seals. Install the new Fuel Rail by carefully sealing the ports and never use compressed air or solvents through the ports. The installation requires inserting the Fuel Rail assembly into the Intake Manifold so the injectors create a space while you tighten the Fuel Rail attaching bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The installer must connect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector at the same time as attaching the injector electrical harness to the Fuel Rail assembly and validate the locked orientation of the injector electrical connector slides before continuing. Reinstall the main injector harness electrical connector while you also install new o-rings on both the fuel feed and return pipes before connecting the fuel feed pipe at the Fuel Rail where the nut reaches a torque of 17 n.m (13 lb ft). The fuel return pipe requires connection to the Fuel Pressure Regulator while achieving 17 n.m (13 lb ft) torque which must be followed by engine compartment fuel pipe retainer bolt installation and torque setting to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Finally, the upper Intake Manifold needs installation. Prior to finishing reconnect the negative Battery Cable the technician must check for any fuel leaks by following an on/off/program sequence of the ignition key.
