2002 Buick Century Throttle Body Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the throttle body assembly on 2002 Buick Century?
A: To change the Throttle Body assembly, first start with partially draining the cooling system. There is removal of an air cleaner intake duct; further, you simply unplug the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector and throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector. Then, take out the accelerator control cable bracket, Throttle Body inlet hoses and outlet hoses. Take out the nut of the heater pipe connected to the Throttle Body, the nuts and bolts that hold the Throttle Body assembly and remove the assembly with Throttle Body Gasket. Refrain from applying any solvent in cleaning the surfaces of the gaskets on the Intake Manifold and Throttle Body assembly to avoid any damage; instead remove any dirt meticulously, to prevent bruising the surfaces with sharp tools. After cleaning the surface we get the Throttle Body part, and its mating surface we should check for any cracks and make cracks. If that is the case there is need to find a new gasket for torque converter. Reinstall the Throttle Body assembly to its place by tightening the nuts and bolts with a torque of 28 n.m. (21 lb ft). Order the Throttle Body inlet and outlet hoses, reinstall the heater pipe nut, locking it to 25 n.m (18 lb ft), then put the Throttle Body inlet and outlet hoses back on. Join the iac valve electrical connector and tp sensor electrical connector, then the accelerator control cable bracket then connect the air cleaner intake duct. Finally, fill the cooling system.
