2002 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2002 Buick Century?
A: Begin upper Intake Manifold replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Remove all vacuum hoses from the Fuel Pressure Regulator followed by the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve and manifold vacuum source and Brake Booster and heater and air conditioning source. The EGR Valve along with the maf sensor and iac valve and t/p sensor must have their electrical connectors disconnected in addition to the evap canister purge valve. Begin by draining the coolant system through the air cleaner intake duct removal. Cables connecting the accelerator control and cruise control requires bracket detachment from Throttle Body and a removal of left side Spark Plug Wires from spark plugs. Separate the cmp sensor wiring harness from its retainer alongside the left side Spark Plug wire harness and engine wiring harness. The next step requires disconnecting the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses (3,4) from the Throttle Body then proceeding with the ignition coil bracket and coils and evap canister purge valve, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor with bracket and EGR Valve. First remove all right upper Intake Manifold bolts then studs followed by left upper Intake Manifold bolts before taking out the upper Intake Manifold with its accompanying gasket. Replacement of the upper Intake Manifold requires removal of the Throttle Body so technicians should clean both mating surfaces before new gasket installation. Throttle body installation precedes the upper Intake Manifold gasket which is followed by the upper Intake Manifold. Install left and right upper Intake Manifold bolts and studs to a loose thread first before completing their installation to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Position the EGR Valve and then add the MAP Sensor bracket and sensor followed by the evap canister purge valve. Secure the ignition coil bracket after setting the coils into place. Next, attach the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses (3,4) to the Throttle Body. First secure engine wiring harness together with left side Spark Plug wire harness and cmp sensor wiring harness at their designated retainers before installing the left side Spark Plug Wires to their appropriate spark plugs. The Throttle Body receives the accelerator control with cruise control cables that have their bracket reattached and the air cleaner intake inlet duct proceeds with its installation. Set up electrical connections to both the evap canister purge valve and t/p sensor along with the iac valve and maf sensor and EGR Valve. Completed work includes installing vacuum hoses to the heater and air conditioning source and Brake Booster as well as manifold vacuum source and evap canister purge valve and Fuel Pressure Regulator normal operations before attaching the negative Battery Cable and filling the cooling system.
