2003 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator on 2003 Buick LeSabre?
A: The first step to replace the generator (L36) requires disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and removing the Drive Belt. Begin by removing the fuel injector sight shield together with the generator brace fasteners before taking away the generator brace. To access the generator output bat terminal connect the generator wiring harness connector then reposition its protective boot away from the terminal. Safe generator replacement requires the battery positive lead to be disconnected first from the generator followed by disconnection of the generator output bat terminal nut. Then remove generator mounting bolts to move the generator out of its vehicle position. Install the generator on the engine followed by bolt attachment where force must reach 37 lbs ft (50 N.m). Connect the generator wiring harness connector first and then feed the positive lead through while installing the generator output bat terminal nut and tightening it to 12.5 n.m (111 lb in). The generator output bat terminal needs a protective boot installed before mounting the generator brace along with its fasteners. Secure the brace fasteners to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) and ensure the brace bolt reaches 25 n.m (18 lb ft). After completing the installation the technician will install the fuel injector sight shield and Drive Belt followed by reconnecting the battery negative cable.
