2003 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: A Steering Knuckle replacement procedure begins by elevating and supporting the vehicle alongside tire and wheel removal followed by wheel bearing/hub extraction. Use a universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to disconnect the tie rod from the Steering Knuckle after untightening the outer tie rod to Steering Knuckle retaining nut. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm by removing its lower retaining nut. Begin by disconnecting the pinch bolt connecting the upper Control Arm to Steering Knuckle then separate the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle. Before removing the lower Ball Joint retaining nut discard it, insert the Ball Joint remover (J 43631) to detach the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle. Cut the Steering Knuckle free from its position at the lower Ball Joint stud after completing this step. Install the Steering Knuckle into the bottom Ball Joint stud before installing a fresh lower Ball Joint retaining nut. Torque the new nut to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) followed by another 210-degree turn. Before moving to the following step, install the upper Control Arm onto the Steering Knuckle and fasten its components with a pinch bolt and nut then tighten the nut to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Before installation insert threadlocker 242 or equivalent on the stabilizer shaft link threads then connect the stabilizer shaft link to the lower Control Arm before torquing the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). First connect the outer tie rod to its corresponding place on the Steering Knuckle and install the retaining nut before tightening it to 75 newton meters (55 foot pound limit). The process ends by installing the wheel bearing/hub followed by tire and wheel installation and placing the vehicle back down.
