2003 Cadillac DeVille Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2003 Cadillac DeVille?
A: The first step to replace the Fuel Rail assembly requires you to drain the system pressure. The Fuel Rail assembly should be removed while being mindful of both injector electrical connector terminals and spray tips. Gentle support underneath the Fuel Rail assembly protects all its components during removal. Apply caps on fittings together with holes plugging to prevent contamination. Use gm x-30a engine cleaning spray to clean the Fuel Rail assembly while keeping it free from liquid solvents. First disconnect fuel feed pipe (2) and return pipe (3) along with the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum hose and pcv air tube and PCV Valve connected to the cam cover. Begin by removing the Fuel Rail bracket retainer nut followed by disconnecting the Fuel Injector electrical connectors from all fuel injectors then placing the wiring harnesses aside before pulling the engine wiring harness from the Fuel Rail studs. Remove the Fuel Rail attaching studs then take away the Fuel Rail after which separate the injector lower o-ring seal from each injector allowing for disposal of the o-rings. When you plan to change the Fuel Rail you must remove all fuel injectors together with the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the system. The assembly process requires installation of both Fuel Pressure Regulator and fuel injectors. Clean engine oil serves to lubricate new o-ring seals which should be installed at the injector bases after plugging the Fuel Rail ports to stop contaminants from entering the system. Stub off compressed air usage while keeping the Fuel Rail assembly out from solvent baths. When installing a new Fuel Rail start by placing the fuel injectors before adding the new o-ring seals to the spray tip ends then complete the assembly with the rail and attaching studs which should be tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Attach the Fuel Injector electrical connectors to each Fuel Injector. Next install the Fuel Rail bracket retainer nut and secure it at 10 n.m (89 lb in). After that install the PCV Valve to the cam cover together with the coolant surge tank inlet pipe and the pcv air tube. To complete the installation, attach the negative battery cable before inspecting for leaks with a Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum hose and fuel feed and return pipe (2, 3) connection to the Fuel Rail. Turn the ignition on while the engine remains off for 2 seconds, then wait for 10 seconds before repeating the on procedure for leak detection. The Fuel Injector sight shield goes on as the final step.
