An unavailable or damaged ignition key requires the removal of the ignition plate bezel followed by knee bolster removal and electrical connector disconnection then fastener removal from the instrument panel retainer to extract the Ignition Lock Cylinder through the radio space. Cover your work area with clean shop towels before using a 1/8 inch drill bit to make a centered pilot hole on the plastic Ignition Lock Cylinder housing rib which is located 3/8 inches from the key entry end. Drill a larger 1/4 inch hole to snap the release button retaining spring. Rephrase the text use a magnet to extract the lock cylinder release button while you grasp the Ignition Lock Cylinder and remove it from the switch housing before cleaning away plastic debris with compressed air. The ignition system requires new lock cylinder housing along with a lock cylinder bezel when the Ignition Lock Cylinder becomes seized or when keys are lost or broken. Insert the Ignition Switch to the run position until the Ignition Lock Cylinder release button appears at the right bottom of the switch assembly. Press down on the button with a flat-bladed tool then remove the button and extract the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Free the retaining tabs to remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder bezel which exposes the light pipe so you can slide the reader/exciter onto the Ignition Lock Cylinder assembly. Follow these installation steps: fit the Ignition Lock Cylinder light pipe onto the Ignition Lock Cylinder and connect both sides of the Ignition Lock Cylinder bezel. After handling a seized lock cylinder, activate the ignition key to run position then reinstall the Ignition Switch to the instrument panel. Finally, connect the electrical wiring components and reinstall the knee bolster. Memorize the run position on your new Ignition Lock Cylinder while inserting it into the Ignition Switch until complete seat. Maintain a gentle pressure on the release button as it encounters the drilled hole. Put the ignition key into the Ignition Lock Cylinder once it reaches the run position. Then feed the key into the instrument panel until you hear the lock cylinder release button's audible click before you light tug to verify its proper fit. First you must turn ignition to lock then remove the key before reinstalling the radio. After that reset the parking brake and reconnect the negative Battery Cable. You should then inspect all ignition components before activating the sir system.
