2003 Chevrolet Impala Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel pressure regulator on 2003 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step to replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator requires bleeding off fuel system pressure. You must disconnect the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line before you take off the fuel return pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator as well as its screw. A shop towel needs to be used to catch any fuel spills before removing the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the Fuel Rail by lifting and twisting it. Separate the Fuel Rail retainer and spacer bracket along with the waste of the Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet and fuel return pipe o-rings. The inspection of the filter screen should occur for contamination and the Fuel Pressure Regulator needs replacement if detected. O-ring materials in the Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet and fuel return pipe require clean engine oil lubrication. Prevent damage to the retainer and spacer bracket by connecting the fuel line before tightening the regulator screw to avoid having the regulator rotate. This action prevents a fuel leak at the inlet. The Fuel Pressure Regulator requires testing and cleaning only by hand methods instead of compressed air and exclusion from solvent bath solutions. Place the o-rings onto the inlet and return pipe of the Fuel Pressure Regulator before connecting the return pipe to its corresponding component. After placing the new retainer and spacer bracket into the Fuel Rail slot the pressure regulator needs to be installed on the rail and then secure the engine fuel return pipe nut with a torque of 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Fasten the Fuel Pressure Regulator screw with a torque of 8.5 n.m (75 lb in). Verify proper seating of the retainer along with spacer bracket by manually pulling on the regulator as it should engage with the Fuel Rail slots. Join the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum tube with the negative electrical connector. The testing procedure for fuel leaks involves turning on the ignition for 2 seconds followed by turning it off for 10 seconds before repeating the ignition on step to detect any fuel leakage.
