2003 Chevrolet Malibu Fan Shroud Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a damaged fan shroud on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Before starting the Fan Shroud replacement process remove the battery tray with the battery then recover the a/c system followed by draining the cooling system. You need to disconnect the upper Radiator hose together with the upper transaxle cooler line and coolant surge tank hose and condenser inlet fitting which connects to the discharge hose. Connectors for the cooling fan should be disassembled while actively raising the vehicle to work on it. First disconnect the lower closeout panel with the lower Radiator hose together with the lower transaxle cooler line and the evaporator line that connects to the condenser outlet. Start by uninstalling the lower Radiator mounting panel before removing the Radiator fan together with the condenser as one unit. Start by unscrewing the fan nut then remove the fan from the Fan Motor and proceed by taking out the Fan Motor using its bolts. First secure the Fan Motor inside its space by tightening bolts to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) before installing the fan onto the motor and applying 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) to the fan nut. Reinstall the Radiator and the fan with the condenser as an assembly by fixing the lower Radiator mounting panel into place with bolts tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Proceed by joining the condenser outlet to the evaporator line bolt while tightening it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) before adding the lower Radiator hose and lower closeout panel. The procedure ends with lowering the vehicle and then connecting the electrical fan followed by tightening each connection to the lower transaxle oil cooler line to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and the condenser inlet fitting to the discharge hose to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the coolant surge tank hose followed by tightening the upper transaxle oil cooler line fitting to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) alongside tightening the upper Radiator hose. The cooling system should be refilled before recharging the a/c system and putting back the battery tray along with the battery.
